Ready to goI don't often check all my gear before I put-in but me thinks I should. I thought about that and about paddlers who are soon going to be starting their paddling season.
How many people check their gear after a winter sitting in wait? For example, and probably the most important, the pull loop on the spray skirt. Is it still in good shape or will it detach with the first good yank? Same as decklines. Will they stand up if need be to hold on to the boat? Is all safety equipment required by the Department of Transport still in the pile? Etc, etc, etc.
I didn't stop paddling last fall so I have a good idea about all of my equipment. Nevertheless, I think I'll start doing a safety check before each put-in, just to get in the habit.
