Winter ... no problemWent to the gym yesterday. I parked next to a vehicle with two J-racks on top. I didn't recognize it and certainly haven't seen it at pool nights. I've seen a few people driving around town with kayak racking gear on their roofs but I've never run into anyone else other than our regulars on the water during the winter. What gives?
Maybe its just an image thing?
There is a car here in my town, like that. I suspect the same. It's also very special (the boat, not the car...), so if I ever see it on the water, I sure will recognize it.
ReplyDeleteBut i doubt that will happen... I am certain it's just a show-off-boat.
(Cars without boats but just the stuff to put the boat on, is very common here - bet not even half of them ever go out in the winter. They just don't bother to take it off the car, they're gonna need it again in the spring so... Lazy people...)
Or they just aint into clubs and don't blog about it!

ReplyDeleteLee, I did some research a few years ago for some funding from the feds and determined there are in excess of 5,000 kayaks in the province. The club has under 200 members. Pool nights are not KNL sponsored events.

ReplyDeleteto see how many kayaks were in the "metro area". I've ran into a few kayakers out here this winter that are just guys and gals out for a paddle albeit in more or less protected waters).With our vast coastline it's no trouble to miss person.

Hmm, sorry, but sounds to me like a little off-season "elitism" here. Folks with racks undoubtably have boats and do get out...sometimes. Let's not suggest we're more "authentic" as paddlers just because we paddle in what is to many the "off-season". Lets be happy they're paddlers! Duncan.
